Eleana Georgouli was born in Athens in 1987. She is a director, actress, writer, movement specialist, theatre educator, and Artistic Director of RETROSPECTIVA. She studied at the Department of Theatre Studies at the University of Athens and graduated from the Drama School of the Theatre of Arts in 2008. She continued her postgraduate studies (MA in Physical Performance & Intercultural Performers Training) with mentor Phillip Zarrilli at the University of Exeter, UK, where she graduated with honors in 2009.

As an actress, Eleana has been honored with the THEATRE YOUNG ARTIST AWARD / KOUN AWARD 2016 for her performances as “Maria” in the play Woyzeck by G. Büchner and as “I-330” in the play We by Y. Zamyatin.

In the field of directing, her work is characterized by research in the creation of original texts, a constant dialectical relationship between the present and the past, and the musicality of the performer, all within a physical theatre framework. Among other works, she wrote and directed ALGO-RHYTHM (K.Θ.B.Ε. Foyer of the National Theatre & UTE FEST, Cluj 2023, Theatre Theseio 2024), THE TRAVELLING THEATRE (Eler Theatre, “All of Greece, One Culture”, Ministry of Culture 2022), and THE RED NOTEBOOKS (Theatre of the New World, 2020).

As both a creator and actress, Eleana has participated in productions in Greece and abroad. She has collaborated with organizations such as La Colline Theatre National, the Athens & Epidaurus Festival, the Grotowski Institute, and the National Theatre of Northern Greece. She has performed leading roles in classical and contemporary repertoire works such as MEDEAMATERIAL by H. Muller (Medea), AJAX by Sophocles (Tecmessa), JULIUS CAESAR by W. Shakespeare (Calpurnia), and others.

She was a founding member of the theatre group SIMEIO MHDEN (2009–2018), led by Savvas Stroumbos, which is based in the New Space of the Attis Theatre of Theodoros Terzopoulos. In her collaboration with the group, she performed leading roles in works such as THE MISSION by H. Muller, WE by Y. Zamyatin, IN THE PENAL COLONY by F. Kafka, WOYZECK by G. Büchner, THE METAMORPHOSIS by F. Kafka, THE JUST by A. Camus, and more.

In the field of artistic education, she has taught and curated physical performance workshops for institutions such as the Epidaurus Lyceum of the Athens Festival (2018), the conservatory of La Colline Théâtre National (2024), the International Dance and Performing Arts Festival Akropoditi (2022), as well as for municipalities, professional dance schools, and performing arts festivals. Since 2016, she has consistently taught acting at higher drama schools, including the Drama School of K.Θ.B.Ε (2023–24), the Drama School of the Theatre of Arts (2016–2024), and the Drama School of Petra (2018–2020).

Finally, Eleana is a founding member and Artistic Director of the performing arts company RETRꝊSPECTIVA, which focuses on artistic research and production, original dramaturgy, applied theatre for vulnerable social groups, and the psychosomatic training of the performer.
