
Matina Megla is a set designer, costume designer, and fashion designer. She studied Set and Costume Design at the Department of Theatre of the School of Fine Arts at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Seeking to specialize thoroughly and comprehensively in the field of fashion, she continued her studies in England. She completed a postgraduate program in Fashion Design at UCA and a second postgraduate degree in Costume Design for Performance at the London College of Fashion, UAL. At the same time, she attended and completed a series of courses at Central Saint Martins College of Art, all related to special constructions, garment transformation, and the role of costume in various art forms.
Alongside her studies and continuing to the present day, she has worked as a costume and set designer in theatrical productions in Greece (Athens Festival, Philippi Festival, Municipal and Regional Theatre of Serres, Municipal and Regional Theatre of Kavala, National Theatre of Greece, Municipal Theatre of Piraeus, etc.) and in London (RADA, LAMDA, etc.). She also participates in visual art exhibitions with her costume-based works and has worked as a costume designer for women’s wardrobe in television productions at SKAI.
She runs her own company specializing in the design and creation of handmade bridal gowns, evening dresses, and limited-edition ready-to-wear thematic garments. In 2011, she won the Audience Award for “Best New Designer” in a competition organized by the British online magazine Lookk, and in February 2012 she was invited for the first time to present her personal collection at Nolcha Fashion Week in New York. She also participated in the ROOMS 2014 art exhibition at Kappatos Gallery, curated by Deio Kaggelari.
In 2015, she presented her first complete visual performance titled WINDOW at the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation. In 2019, her second directed theatrical performance was staged at Rabbithole Theatre, consisting of her own text composition based on the myth of Electra, titled Three Secret Letters. In 2021, she collaborated with Eva Oikonomou-Vamvaka, with whom she co-wrote the play Black Water, a work related to the history of the city of Serres, which was presented at the Municipal and Regional Theatre of Serres.
